McHenry's Peter Secker to Display Work at Shelby-Ford-Cobra Show June 3
VOLO - A 1921 Franklin Touring Sedan cruises along a country road against a serene background of blues, greens and peachy golds.
A blue '53 Buick peeks out of the woods near a beachfront cabin.
A sporty classic Cobra - this one red with white racing stripes - zips along a narrow, stone-lined lane, snow-topped mountains in the background.
These are a few of the classic car musings of artist Peter Secker of McHenry, who will show and sell his work during the newly combined Shelby-Ford-Cobra and George Barris All-Collector Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 1, 2007, at the Volo Auto Museum, 27582 W. Volo Village Road.
Secker owns Thomas Sebastian Companies, a McHenry-based firm that produces graphic design products for printed and interactive promotional materials.
Oil landscapes are an enjoyable pastime for Secker, and in 1993, he began adding classic cars to his paintings.
"I have finished two paintings of classic Shelby Cobras, a 1921 Franklin Touring Sedan, and a 1974 Alfa Romeo for a friend," Secker said. "I plan to exhibit all of these paintings."
Wayne Seely of McHenry, the proud owner of the Alfa Romeo painting, said he treasures having an heirloom quality rendering of his prized 1974 Alfa Romeo GT Veloce.
"To see your car in an oil painting with a rocky mountain backdrop on a country road is awesome," Seely said. "Everyone who goes in the house just goes 'Wow, that's cool.'"

Secker's artwork will be shown during one of Volo Auto Museum's most popular and well-attended shows. The Shelby-Ford-Cobra Show is in its sixth year and is expected to draw at least 250 cars. The event includes food, music, awards and a car corral, meaning some of the cars displayed will be for sale.
