Volo Auto Museum Delivers First Auburn Speedster Replica
Volo, IL - World famous for its classic car sales, the Volo Auto Museum recently sold its first brand-new vehicle, a 2005 Auburn Tail Speedster replica built by Speedster Motorcars of Clearwater, Florida.
"As soon as we walked in the showroom, I said, 'Now that is a car,'" said Edward Price, who ordered the vehicle August 8 and took delivery Monday, Oct. 11. "It was love at first site."
Museum President Bill Grams said he immediately agreed to become the Midwest's exclusive dealer of this stunning vehicle after spotting it at a recent auction in Auburn, Indiana.
"It is the perfect combination of modern convenience and 1930's class and style," he said.
Grams had been a long-time friend and is still a great admirer of the late Gordon Buehrig, the designer of the original 1936 Auburn Speedster as well as many famous Cords and Duesenbergs.
"I knew Gordon well, and I am very pleased to see his legacy continued in this fine replica," Grams said. "I am very proud to represent this car."
The 2005 Auburn Tail Speedster is a hand-formed, fiberglass body wrapped around a tubular-steel chassis and powered by a 295-horsepower Vortec 5.3L V-8 engine.
The vehicle includes an array of standard features, including an automatic transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, 30-spoke wheels, AM/FM radio with CD player, heater, air-conditioner, leather interior and much more. In addition, each car can be customized to the owner's specifications.
Price said he is especially impressed with the Speedster's interior room and 6-way, power-adjustable seats, which enables the car to easily accommodate long-legged passengers.
"I considered purchasing other replicas, but I couldn't fit in them," he said. "This one is just right for a guy over six-feet tall."
The museum is home to the George Barris TV & Movie Car Collection, which features the original Batmobile, the General Lee, the "Miami Vice" Ferrari Daytona Spyder, the "Back to the Future" Delorean and lots of other legendary vehicles from America's favorite television programs and films.
The museum also possesses the world's largest muscle-car collection and features military artifacts, children's exhibits, a 1950s food court, five antique malls and other cool attractions.
