"Few cars of any size can equal such economy." A good sized car with 20 mpg and a few hundred more than the ford. The Mercury car marque was unveiled in 1938 under the guidance of Edsel Ford. Edsel sold Henry on the idea of an intermediate premium car that would bridge the price gap between the Ford and Lincoln lines. At the time, the least expensive base model Lincoln had a higher price tag than a fully loaded Ford Deluxe.

Mercury was almost identical to Ford cars under the hood, but the styling was all new.  The name Mercury, derived from the fleet-footed messenger of the gods in Roman Mythology, evoked a modern theme associated with speed. Mercury earned a reputation for being a fine performer on miles per hour and miles per gallon. The new pattern V8 Flathead would be showcased in the inaugural pre-war models, which were poised to compete with Buick and Chrysler for the growing upper-mid market segment.

This eye-catching Coupe enjoyed a recent body-up restoration. A 12 volt electric system replaced the original 6 volt with a clean and tidy install. The engine was rebuilt and runs on unleaded fuel. Wide Whitewall Tires contrast beautifully with the Wine body paint. Chrome is good and panel fit is excellent across the straight body. New seating with upgraded grey ribcord upholstery. The car shows well with it's nostalgic Art Deco lines and trim. This Mercury drives well and her Ford Flathead V8 runs strong.  Complete video of this vehicle available.  Call our classic car division at 815-385-8408 for video and/or vehicle information.
