Packards produced from the years of 1932-1934 are among the most coveted pre-WW2 American classic cars around. During this brief two-year period, Packard automotives peaked in terms of design, engineenering, quality, performance, reliability and service. Packard was the only marque bold enough to say "Ask The Man That Owns One" with total confidence in their customer's testimonial. Packard persisted with their total adherance to quality even in their short lived economy line, titled "Light Eight". Packard reckonned that a lighter, smaller and more efficiently produced car would do well in a thrifty post-depression market, even if it was five times the price of a Ford V8. Packard's marketing miscalulation resulted in the cancellation of the Light Eight line after only one year of production in 1932.

Although the Light Eights were smaller compared to their big brothers in the Deluxe Eight Line, they were no less a Packard by any measure. Even the distinctive tapered sloping grille, known unofficially as the "shovelnose" was an elegant design that made the car look more Wallstreet than Mainstreet. Packard simply could not build a cheap, no-frills car. Today the Light Eights have gained a well-deserved following in their own right, being as well-built and impressive as any Packard of the Classic Era.

This striking example of the Light Eight Coupe Roadster enjoyed a recent no-expense spared frame-off restoration. Shortly after completion this car was shown extensively in regional and national AACA and CCCA events, winning several awards including a CCCA Senior Premier Award in 2002. The Coupe Roadster presents gorgeously in it's catalog-correct Panquin Green paint color, executed in contrasting light and dark tones across the body, fenders and beltline moudlings. Every inch of the car is detailed to show quality, and nearly every option available to the Light Eight line has been included.

Highlights include the premium "Goddess of Speed" Hood Ornament, Dual Sidemount Spare Tires with chrome rings and painted covers, Deluxe Trunk with Brocade Cloth Lining, Trippe Lights, Chrome Wire Wheels, Wide White Wall Tires, and a premium Down Draft Carburetor and Precision Distributor giving this Coupe Roadster an additional 20 horsepower over the 110 horsepower standard on the lighter Straight Eight cylinder motor. At a curb weight of 4200 pounds and output of 130 horsepower, This Coupe Roadster outperforms even the magnificient Packard Twelves in terms of power to weight ratio. For the collector seeking the finest Light Eight, and a spirited driving open top American Classic, look no further than this precious jewel of a car.  Complete video of this vehicle available.  Call our classic car division at 815-385-8408 for video and/or vehicle information.
