1927 would be the last year Ford produced a Model T, making way for the more contemporary Model A with it's familiar 3-Speed transmission. During the two decades of the Model T's domination of the American car market, Ford offered more than twenty ways in which a Model T could be built. Ford had started with a bare bones rolling chassis, and later cab-chassis options, which would be finished by the buyer as they wished. Nearly every permutation of open/closed cab, open/closed box light duty truck existed. This was due to a number of resourceful aftermarket equipment manufacturers filling the need with specialized kits and outfits for the Ford Model T chassis. One aftermarket vendor of prominence was Giant Jumbo, a supplier of chassis extensions, transmission replacement/assist kits, and brakes. A full Model TKX/BCS kit could be used to turn a Model T cab-top into a long wheelbase stakebed pickup for less than the price of a competitor's complete truck.

Featured here is a fine example of this phenomenon, what Ford dubbed the “Express Truck”.  These longer wheelbase light duty trucks were more capable cargo movers than the standard Depot hack because they could be loaded with construction lumber without the load overhanging the tailgate.  The Jumbo Giant chassis extensions bolted onto the frame rails and the accompanying transmission kit supplied the case, clutch, shaft and additional running gear to make it all work.

This Model T Express is in very good condition, with a straight steel cab, hood and fenders that are finished in black paint. The presentation is quite nice, considering that it's been used for it's intended purpose and would serve as an excellent novelty cargo hauler for promoting one's business. The Model 30 Jumbo Giant 2-Speed transmission is more sturdy and smooth than the stock Model T planetary transmission. The wood bed is in very good condition with minor wear, again taking into account it's real world usage. This Model T Express is also perfect for parades and antique displays. For as much money you'll be hard pressed to find another antique pickup with as much character or capability.  Youtube video available upon request.  Call our classic car division at 815-385-8408 for video and/or vehicle information.
